Looking for something special to do for Mother’s Day? The Michigan State University College of Music is presenting “Piano Monster: For Mothers Everywhere,” a specially themed concert that features four grand pianos.Local high schools sending students include DeWitt, East Lansing, Lansing Everett, Grand Ledge and Holt. High school students will compete to win one of two spots at the National High School Musical Theatre (Jimmy) Awards in June. “We are excited to partner with the Ambassador Theatre Group to host the 2023 Sutton Foster Awards in Detroit, truly taking this statewide program to the next level.”
“We are thrilled to showcase the extraordinary talents of high school students all across Michigan,” said Eric Olmscheid, Wharton’s executive director. This year the 11 th annual awards night will take place at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre on May 21 and feature 130 high school students performing pieces from their high school musicals. It’s one that sends professionals to high schools around the state providing feedback to performers and recognizing their achievements.
